Advice for Students
Learning English is similar in many ways to acquiring any skill, such as becoming good at a sport or learning to play a musical instrument.

How do I reach my goals?
- Persistence - don't give up
- Patience - little by little will get you a long way if you keep going
- Enjoyment - it's easier to remain focused if you enjoy what you do
- Success - early success is a great motivator
How can Online Sensei help?
- Language Activities, Games and Tests
The online games and activities have been created using vocabulary and structures you need to learn - you do not waste time learning unnecessary words or grammar. These activities are designed to provide the repetition needed to learn words and structures thoroughly in a fresh and interesting way. Studies have proved that this kind of inter-active learning is often more effective in teaching English skills than written resources such as textbooks. Practice for senior high school entrance and Eiken tests to improve results quickly and easily!
- Articles
Read about people who interest you. Articles are written using simplified vocabulary, with mouse-over definitions in Japanese for the difficult words. You don't get discouraged by passages you cannot understand, or have to keep looking up words in a dictionary. You use your English skills to read about your favorite movie or pop stars, sports people or whoever is in the news at the moment. New, up-to-date articles are added every fortnight.
- Photo and Sound Gallery
The photo and sound gallery is also up-dated frequently, and is designed to give additional listening and reading practice as you find out about another culture. Learn new vocabulary and structures as you read about a New Zealand family, school and local community.
- Homestay Section
Use your English skills to learn about living and studying in a foreign country. Read about New Zealand homes, education, money and food. Become familiar with the New Zealand accent as you practice answering more than 120 questions. Click here to try answering some questions
- Links
Carefully-chosen links to online dictionaries, English-language web sites, stories and activities provide you with a range of extension activities selected from the best online materials available. You do not waste time looking for them yourself.
- Availability
You can access the website any time you wish - evenings, weekends or holidays. Because the activities are interesting and varied, learning is continuous and easy. Many students who have not been keen to study using their textbooks have enjoyed using online activities in their own time, and have been delighted with their improved skills, confidence and results in tests and exams.
- Real Communication in English
We encourage members to send us e-mails in simple English to practice your English skills, and provide a limited number of contact details for e-mail penfriends from Auckland, New Zealand.
